Here Comes the Sun. Solstice Reflections & Winter Updates

Gaby Knight | DEC 22, 2025

As we approach the end of the year, we find ourselves at a powerful turning point. On December 20th, we celebrate the Winter Solstice, also known as Yule.

There is a beautiful paradox in this season: it marks the official beginning of winter, yet it is also the moment the tide turns. When the darkness is at its fullest, it has no choice but to give way to the light.

Here comes the sun!

From this point forward, the days will gradually become longer, eventually carrying us toward the blooming of spring. It is a time for deep rest, but also a time for fierce hope.

Staying Energized This Winter

It is easy to feel "stuck" or heavy during the colder months. When the sun is scarce, our energy levels and moods can dip. This is why our practice is so vital right now. Yoga helps us move stagnant energy, boost our mood, and stay connected to our inner fire even when the world outside is frozen.

Important Schedule Updates

Zoom Class Break: I will not be holding any live Zoom classes for the remainder of the month as I take some time for reflection and rest.

Classes Resume: We will be back on the mat together on Monday, January 5th, 2026.

Stay Practicing: If your body is craving movement while I’m away, my Mindful Morning Membership is available! You can access the full class library anytime to help you stay energized and centered through the holidays.

My YouTube channel has Yoga Nidra Meditations and Yoga classes available for free!

Winter Solstice Journaling: Preparing for 2026

I invite you to carve out 20 minutes this week to reflect on these prompts. They are designed to help you honor where you’ve been and plant seeds for where you are going.

Part 1: Looking Back (The Darker Half of the Year)
The Summer Solstice was on June 20th, 2025. Since then, we have been moving through the "waning" half of the year.

  • What seeds did you plant during this darker half of the year?

  • What lessons have you learned since June?

  • What was your spiritual focus during this time?

  • Pro-tip: Scroll back through your camera roll from June to now. It’s a wonderful way to remember the small moments you may have forgotten.

Part 2: The Rebirth (Winter Solstice)

As the sun is "reborn" this week, consider what is being reborn within you.

  • What is currently being born in you?

  • What are your deepest hopes and dreams for the coming months?

  • What are you truly passionate about right now?

  • Action Step: Write a list and make a simple plan to nurture one of these dreams.

Part 3: Releasing 2025

To make room for the new, we must clear out the old.

  • What will I leave behind in 2025?

  • What did I say goodbye to this year?

  • What do I still need to let go of to create space for my 2026 intentions?

Part 4: Winter Wellness & Joy

  • What practices can help me stay healthy and grounded this winter?

  • What type of yoga is my body craving right now? (Restorative? Sculpt? Yin?) Class Library YouTube

  • What activities help uplift my mood when it feels dark?

  • Who brings a genuine smile to my face? How can I spend more time with them?

  • How can I connect with nature and enjoy the unique beauty of this season?

I wish you a beautiful, reflective Solstice. May you find the light within you even on the shortest day of the year.

I look forward to seeing you all back on Zoom on January 5th!

With love and light,

Gaby Knight.
